Several old mattresses and other refuse
Reported in the Fly Tipping category anonymously at 12:14, Wed 12 July 2017
Sent to Stevenage Borough Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1070336.
This dumped stuff has been there for several months. It would appear the service road alongside the indoor market is not regularly cleaned,

The mattresses were indeed promptly removed, but there remains, at the same location (checked last Friday) an old wooden pallet and all sorts of rubbish.

As of today (9th Sept) there were several wooden pallets, large pieces of wood (broken furniture) and other debris outside the south entrance of the indoor market. It would seem that this roadway is not routinely cleaned.

A dismal failure! The area opposite the south entrance to the indoor market (rear of SuoerDrug ) is littered with general rubbish, discarded wooden pallets and broken wooden furniture. An open invitation to would-be fly-tippers!

The area in question is the responsibility of the shops. The Environmental Enforcement Team has been asked to talk to shop owners regarding their responsibilities.

Apparently the area behind the shops is private property, not SBC owned. Not sure what the implications are, but as of 14/11/2017 the area outside Indoor Market South entrance remains littered with wooden pallets, broken furniture and general rubbish. Seems shopkeepers too busy making money than recognising their civic duties.

Especially out of business hours, this service road carries virtually no traffic, nor are there any pedestrians. It is not overlooked by any residential dwellings and therefore, I fear, will remain a tempting site for fly tipping, which is what appears to be happening right now. It is hard to know what can be done about this. A CCTV camera perhaps?
