Thorny bushes

Reported in the Miscellaneous category by Mrs Gregory at 14:52, Fri 22 June 2018

Sent to Stevenage Borough Council 3 minutes later

The bushes around this area drop massive, strong thorns all over the paths and grass (see photo), and it's particularly bad after they've been trimmed. I've been pulling them out of my kids bicycle tyres for years and have spent a fortune on repairs and new inner tubes. Now today I've pulled this thorn out of my poor dogs paw, this is the third time it's happened to him in 18 months. These bushes are not pretty and don't seem to serve any purpose. Please can they be dug out and replaced with something more attractive and wildlife friendly like lavender or something?

  • I had to pull another, much larger (see photo) thorn out of my poor dogs paw this morning. This was about 20 feet away from the bushes - I have been keeping him from getting too close but they're obviously spreading.

  • All I can say is that the thorns are definitely spreading as I have to pull them out of the soles of my shoes quite regularly. Thankfully they are quite thick but I've heard that children with summer shoes on have not been so lucky!

  • Nothing's changed, still pulling thorns out of my soles and my dog has learned to recognize when he has one in his paw so he keeps his paw up for me to deal with!

  • I received an email asking me where the bushes are, but that's it. They haven't even been trimmed (I don't think they've been trimmed at all this year!). I'll have to put in a claim for vet treatment at some point and probably new shoes soon...

  • Some bushes have now been trimmed, not all, but although the path was swept there are thorns on the grass which are slowly being spread. I am in contact with someone at the local authority who hopefully will see that trimming a third of a bush doesn't prevent thorns from growing and being a nuisance!

  • These bushes were trimmed again on 14/02, properly this time. However, I only found this out when walking my dog in the dark that evening. He suffered another thorn in his paw (1 1/2 inches long!) as the trimmings were scattered all over the grass. Three days later I got one in my foot as I was trying to guide my dog away from the area and I wear very thick soles.

  • Nothing has changed, no-one cares about my little dogs paws and judging by the rubbish, no-one cares about St. Nicks. I would just like to know who to send the vets bills to and who's going to pay for my sons footballs and puncture-proof bicycle tyres now.

  • Still nothing, it's been a year now. And it's happened again (see photo), how would you like that stuck in your foot?Even our all-promising local councillor failed!

  • Still no response. The bushes were trimmed again last week and my poor little dog got the trimmings in his paw again and I've had one stuck in my foot AGAIN! I just want to know who to send the vet's bills to, and who's going to pay for puncture-proof bicycle tyres?

  • No news, but the bushes are getting quite large now so are probably due a trim which means it'll be all over the place again!

  • No change, except that the bushes are overgrown now and absolutely huge... I am not looking forward to their next trim! Also, my poor little dog is still getting thorns in his paws. :(
