Grass in dire need of cutting.
Reported in the Missed Grass Cutting category anonymously at 14:29, Wed 30 May 2018
Sent to Stevenage Borough Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1325738.
This is the current state of our pathway and grass verge to the rear of 67-79 Broad Oak Way and the front of 121-131 Turpins Rise. The infrequency of grass cutting is bad enough but when they do come, they skim over the area with such speed that the blades only skim the surface and then they don't come back for weeks. Please see to it that this grass it cut to a reasonable standard without delay.

We complete a 15 day cycle of grass cutting, working north to south through the town, throughout the summer. The exceptional weather, both wet and sunny, has created challenging cutting conditions that has led the grass in some areas of the town to grow longer than desired. Please be assured we are working tirelessly to rectify the current situation so that the grass will be maintained to the expected level of our residents. Our road sweeping unit is working on clearing grass cuttings where some of this may have gone onto footpath areas.
Each summer we leave a number of roadside verges and areas of parkland to grow long during the summer months. Not cutting the grass throughout the summer has allowed native wildflowers to flourish, which in turn has encouraged greater numbers of butterflies, bees, grasshoppers and crickets. Some of the meadows, on road verges and in Fairlands Valley Park, also act as corridors, enabling wildlife to move around the town more easily.

This is nothing more than a stock answer and doesn’t relate to the issue at all. This is a residential area, nothing to do with road sweeping the grass cuttings off roadside verges or parklands and certainly nothing whatsoever to do with encouraging bees, butterflies, grasshoppers and crickets. Please do not insult my intelligence– 15 days cycle is a joke – the last time the grass was cut in Broadwater/Turpins Rise was 3rd May and it is now 5th June – over a month since the last cut and even that wasn’t done satisfactorily, and certainly not to the “expected level of the residents”. The grass in Broadwater has only had two cuts this year so far. This needs sorting immediately … and ADEQUATELY.

It has now been 12 days since this post and still the grass has not been cut. The cutters finally came yesterday (12th June) but omitted to cut this area.
